Cognition Changes in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation Lead Investigator: Kathryn Wood Institution : Emory University School of Nursing E-Mail : kathryn.wood@emory.edu Proposal ID : 1257 Proposal Description: This data analysis would serve as pilot data for future R01 to test the hypothesis that patients with AF have more cognitive decline than patients without AF. This would also provide us an opportunity to explore cognition and genetic/biomarker changes in patients with Atrial Fibrillation (AF). Specific Aims are: (1) to determine if patients with AF and normal cognition at baseline have more rapid cognitive decline (to MCI or AD) over time than subjects with normal cognition who do not have AF. (2) to determine if patients with AF and MCI at baseline have more rapid cognitive decline over time than subjects with MCI who do not have AF. (3) to determine if Aim 1 or Aim 2 differ by gender or race. (4) to identify any specific genetic/biomarker data associated with cognitive decline in AF patients compared to patients without AF.
